poem || Peter Sherburn-Zimmer

the light of day

I thought I was listening
to Charles Olson's voice
But it was another man's memory
So I lost the thread the moment
became unraveled
and I sang to myself
in the morning
waiting for some other voice
other bodies to inhabit my room
before its beginning
the beginning of day
and the need for punctuation
before taking a breath
before another lesson unlearned
