poem || Peter Sherburn-Zimmer

Dancing at McDonalds

I came by
to watch the dancing
at McDonalds
the wanderings in
of the tribes--
to listen to the
rhyme of the numbers
72... 97... 183

my fries gone
indegestion settling in
my time in the place
almost up

read deveroh major in
disregarding the failure
of final light
waiting for the reading
at the library
across the street

still mesmerized by the couple--
young girl and guy
silent, dancing
in the only empty space
in the place
back two steps
forward
back
who knows the culture
you'll find at the mall
among the kids
whao are not just passing through.
